Do You Suspect Abuse?
What to do if you suspect child abuse:
  • Believe the child's story.  Don't deny the problem or blame the child.

  • Stay Calm.  A quiet, unhurried conversation reassures the child.

  • Never punish the child.  Sexual abuse is the fault of the abuser.

  • Assure the child you still love him/her regardless of what happened.

  • Tell the child that he/she is safe & will not be harmed.

  • Don't take the law into your own hands.

  • Get help for the child immediately!  Child abuse is a crime!
Contact your local law enforcement agency, the Department of Human Resources (DHR) or the Children's Center to report the abuse.
